The communications department continues to develop materials to educate and inform consumers about the risks associated with catastrophes. In early June, the NAIC released What the Flood!, an online quiz that tests people’s knowledge of flood related insurance. We also hosted a Twitter chat in June that brought together several insurance departments, FEMA, IIHBS, insurance trades, meteorologists and the general public. It was a fun way to discuss the importance of being prepared for natural disasters and the critical role insurance plays in resilience.
In July, the communications department created a wildfire toolkit, available to all the DOIs and interested parties. This toolkit includes press releases, social media graphic and information about how to protect yourself against wildfires. An earthquake toolkit is in the works and will be available in the fall.
Check out “The Regulators” podcast! This new monthly podcast is hosted by NAIC CEO Mike Consedine. It provides listeners with an inside look at challenging insurance issues and offers the unique perspective of insurance regulators. The podcast is available on Spotify, Spreaker and wherever you get your podcasts.
In late August, the NAIC will release a toolkit around Life Insurance Awareness month for insurance departments across the country to utilize.
